What a Game!
I must say that was one of the most entertaining games I have watched in a long time. Pettitte and Marcum were going toe to toe for the first six innings. Runs were at a complete premium so much so that Aaron Hill had to steal home to put the Jays ahead 2-1. The Yanks tied it after two costly errors by the Jays but they were able to regain the lead in the eighth and Jeremy Accardo shut the door to give the Jays their second straight win.
Marcum was amazing tonight and it is too bad after he got pulled after six innings of work that the bullpen couldn't hold the one run lead to get him the win. Scott Downs gave up a homerun to the first batter he saw (Giambi) resulting in Marcum getting a no decision.
I'll post a link to footage of Hill stealing home as soon as it is available on sportsnet.ca or on You Tube.
The Jays go for the sweep tomorrow in the battle of the rookies. Jesse Litsch gets the call in what could be his last start in awhile given Roy Halladay is making his return on Thursday. He faces Tyler Clippard for the Yankees. I don't know what to expect tomorrow. Litsch hasn't pitched well in his last two starts and the Jays have never faced Clippard.
The Yankees are really beat up. Not only is the pitching staff in shambles but even the offence is struggling. I think nagging injuries to Damon (achilles tendon) and Giambi (bone spurs and sore heel) have played a major factor in the slumping offense. Bobby Abreu looks lost out there. Can they turn it around? I don't know. The talent is there but will the team ever get healthy? I'm not going to lose sleep over it that is for sure!
GO JAYS!
